K2

K2 Darkside Skis 2012: As the name suggests, the K2 DarkSide Skis excel on steep, shady north faces and in couloirs whose walls protect the snow from the sun’s powder-killing radiation. This year, the rocker starts just in front of the binding – further back than any other ski in the collection – and turns the tail into both a brake and accelerator. Pressure the shovel to quickly and easily pivot the ski and scrub speed with the normal cambered tail, or pressure the tail for added power and acceleration. *Insert heavy breathing here* Welcome to the DarkSide.

Product Details

Shape

Designed for those who ski off-piste, these skis are shaped to work for all disciplines from the most serious alpine touring skier to the big mountain powder ripper

Powder Rocker: 50% Camber, 50% Rocker. The powder rocker is designed for deep snow. The tip has the most elevation and longest measurement of rocker and offers skiers a “surfy” feel with enhanced soft-snow performance. The camber region still exists to ensure edge-hold on firmer conditions

Flat/notched tail

Construction

The wider waisted construction of Hybritech combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Tip and tail attachment holes fit the functional needs of a backcountry skier including the ability to build a rescue sled, or construct various ski anchors.

Flex

Use: Variable Snow: 10%, Soft Snow: 90%

Triaxial braiding in the Aspen core consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented Triaxial Braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, while maintaining the lively flex patterns of the wood core. Aspen is known for its inherent strength and durability, while the Paulownia is eco friendly and lightweight.
